About Me
What work are you currently doing in 2024?
I returned to Irapuato, Mexico in January 2024 where I have been volunteering alongside David to provide medical and podiatry services to the passing migrants along the train tracks. We have also been volunteering at a rehabilitation center and recently have started to organize a medical mission, where we will bring a team of medical professionals to the Chiapas region of Mexico. My focus this year is to challenge myself during my time here in Mexico before returning back home for the second half of the year. I hope to grow my vision with the hopes of travelling in 2025 to volunteer in new places.
Why did you travel to Mexico to volunteer Nursing?
I chose to volunteer in Irapuato, Mexico because I was looking for a change in my work. I briefly tried travel nursing but found that it was not engaging enough for me, and I craved a more dramatic change. I was lucky enough to have a good friend who connected me with David, creating this unique volunteer opportunity.
What is one happy moment and one sad moment in Mexico?
Many of the happy moments I have experienced in Mexico are surrounded by the amazing relationships I have built with new friends, co-workers, and strangers who I am lucky enough to connect with. To be specific, meeting my friend and Mexican mama Claudia and her family has been the biggest blessing. Their love and generosity have made this incredible experience even more amazing.
One sad moment would definitely be how much I miss my family back home. Many things and people throughout the day remind me of my parents and grandparents and I sometimes feel guilty for missing out on time spent with them.
When I met a man traveling alone who sustained an injury from horse riding resulting in significant muscle atrophy, nerve damage, and difficulties walking. He had walked a very long way and caught multiple trains. It made me sad that we were not able to fix his problem.
How has volunteering Nursing impacted the way you see people and the world?
Volunteer nursing has changed my perspective on what it is to provide ‘health care’. My experience here in Mexico has highlighted the importance of community and human connection. Sometimes having a conversation with someone is a lot more impactful than the free service you are able to provide them. The relationships I have built with people from all walks of life has really shown me that we can love and care for people we never thought we would even have the opportunity to cross paths with.
What are some hobbies you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to bake and recreate sweet treats with healthy ingredients. I enjoy cooking and eating yummy food, being outside in nature or by the water, and watching movies.

In The Future…
My goals for the future are centered around finding a way to use the skills I have as a Registered Nurse to help people in need. I want to continue nursing in new environments and challenging myself, however I also want to encourage others through my actions and conversations. I am very blessed to currently be doing what I love, and I hope to continue this journey in 2025 in South America.
